The Netflix app for Quest headsets is no longer

Netflix has stopped providing a streaming app for the Quest headset, but Meta has added support for Netflix in the Quest browser with 1080p streaming.

According to a report from Upload VR, Netflix has stopped providing a streaming app for the Quest headset. The good news for Quest users is that Meta recently added support for Netflix in the Quest browser with support for 1080p streaming. Netflix hasn't made a major update to its VR app since porting it to Quest in 2019. None of that mattered when the app launched on the Samsung Gear VR back in 2015, but a lot has changed in the nine years since then.

However, I think some people will miss the cozy Netflix booth in this YouTube clip. In-browser streaming solves two of those problems — pass-through streaming and higher-resolution streaming — but users still can't download Netflix content for offline viewing like they can in the iOS app. Still, watching in a browser means being able to use other virtual environments while streaming videos. This is similar to what happens with Vision Pro, which does not have a corresponding app for Netflix. Apple headset owners can still watch Netflix in their browser, which is nice, but not as great as the dedicated app experience. Fortunately, the third part developers have entered there to fill the empty and release apps such as SuperCut, which streams on the Netflix web view and has a "cinema" environment similar to what is designed for the Visiono Apple TV app.
