Google plans to build ChromeOS on Android system components, including the Android Linux kernel and frameworks, to implement AI features faster and simplify engineering for devices like mobile phones

Google said Wednesday that ChromeOS will "soon be built on top of large parts of the Android system" so that it can implement AI features more quickly. The company says it will include things like the Android Linux kernel and Android frameworks "as part of the foundations of ChromeOS."

According to Google, the changes won't just mean more AI features. The company also pointed out that they will help "simplify engineering" and "help various devices such as mobile phones and accessories working with Chromebook", as described in the blog post.

Google certainly wants Chromebook users to try out as many AI features as possible, so this change could speed up the process. But the company warned that while the changes to the technology package "start now", they "won't be ready for consumers for some time".Meanwhile, if you have a Chromebook Plus laptop, you can use Gemini from your home screen.
