Valve is introducing a new feature in the Steam client beta that gives players more control over game updates. By default, Steam will now wait to download updates until a game is launched, rather than automatically downloading them in the background.
This change is particularly beneficial for users with limited bandwidth, as it allows them to prioritize downloads and avoid unnecessary data usage. Additionally, it provides flexibility for players who prefer to update games manually or only when they intend to play them.
Here, they can choose between two options:
- Let Steam Decide: This option allows Steam to automatically determine the optimal time to download updates based on factors like recent playtime, available bandwidth, and other relevant considerations.
- Wait to Update Until Launched: This option ensures that game updates are only downloaded when the specific game is launched, providing users with greater control over their download schedule.
It's important to note that this new default setting can be overridden on a per-game basis. Users can still manually manage update settings for individual games within their Properties menu. However, Valve has streamlined the process and improved the clarity of the options. With this update, Valve empowers Steam users to take charge of their gaming experience and tailor it to their specific needs and preferences.
