Ola goes all-in on in-house IT solutions, claiming to save up to Rs 100 crore per year.

On Friday, Ola co-founder and CEO Bhavish Aggarwal announced that the company will be exiting Google Maps and moving to internal Ola Maps. Aggarwal wrote in X's post, “We used to spend Rs 100 crore every year but this month

Perfectly aligned with our internal Ola map! A few months ago, the company moved from Microsoft Azure to an on-premise cloud infrastructure to support the ecosystem and launch the company's Large Language Model (LLM) Krutrim.

Aggarwal also stated that in the coming days, Ola Maps will gain more features such as street view, neural radiance fields (NERFs), indoor images, 3D maps, drone maps, and more.

Ola has attributed OpenStreetMap on its app, indicating the Ola Maps solution has been built on top of it, along with proprietary data from Ola. OpenStreetMap is an open source map that can be freely used under an open license. . While Ola may be able to reduce these recurring costs through in-house solutions, there will certainly be implementation costs associated with the entire hardware and software solution required to run and maintain Ola Maps. The ride platform and electric vehicles will be available for Android and iOS, allowing developers to pay to integrate it into their apps and services via the Krutrim Cloud.
