Meta and Instagram are discovered exploring a new social music sharing function

META and Spotify explore deeper music integration of Meta Instagram applications. The new results indicate that companies are testing the functions that allow companies to share the music they are listening through Instagram's memo forever. The new feature was first noticed by reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi, who often discovers new features during development, but since companies like Meta and Spotify are constantly testing new concepts, the discovery doesn't necessarily mean the feature will be available to the public in the near future. The screenshot issued by Paluzzi shows a new option that allows everyone to "constantly share" music as a Spotify, unlike selecting a song from the Instagram catalog in Meta subjects.

"You can stop sharing at any time," said the message. If it started, the addition was based on the development that started about a year ago, and Instagram has added an opportunity to share a 30 -second memo. Introduced in 2022, Notes lets Instagram users share their statuses and other quick updates in messages that appear just above the Instagram inbox. The music video feature in Notes is supported in all markets around the world where Instagram has music licensing rights, the company said at the time of the release. A partnership with Spotify could automate the posting of these songs, providing content to Instagram even when its users are actively interacting with another app.

This feature is reminiscent of the social media activity currently available in the Spotify app. Spotify now lets users "connect with Facebook" and see what their friends are streaming in a separate tab on the desktop app. Spotify is also testing a "Community" feature, which hasn't launched yet, that will let users see what other users are streaming on their mobile devices in real time. Spotify has continued to add social features over time, recently adding podcast comments and more detailed user profiles, but the company understands that music discovery still often happens in dedicated social media apps, where people build friend networks and check in more regularly.

Other signs point to a rapprochement between Meta and Spotify: Tech insider Chris Messina told TechCrunch that at some point in the past few weeks, Instagram added a "SpotifyiOS.framework" component to its app. He was grateful that it was more than a month ago according to the Instagram version of V.338.0. Earlier, in cooperation with last week's singer Sabrina Carpenter, Messina emphasized another function that Instagram users could add music to their profile before this feature was officially released. Messina theorized that Instagram could eventually integrate the offering with Spotify to better challenge TikTok on music discovery.

Meta and Spotify are no strangers to working together on music features. In 2021, they partnered on music initiatives including a Facebook mini player that streams Spotify directly from the app. The companies also now have a common enemy in Apple. Spotify and Meta believe that Apple's App Store monopoly will prevent them from making their own in-app payments or controlling the distribution of their apps, forcing them to share app revenue with Apple through in-app purchase fees. Additionally, even though Apple Music is a direct competitor to Spotify, Apple's addition of a privacy feature called ATT (App Tracking Transparency) has hurt Meta's advertising business.
