Google is adding a new daily calendar view to newly opened Chrome tabs for Workspace users, giving them easy access to their schedule and video calls. This way, when you log into your organization's account, the first thing you'll see are your events and meetings, as well as files stored in Google Drive.
The new feature comes alongside several other updates to Google Workspace, including new company-managed site shortcuts that allow IT pros to set up quick links to frequently used sites in a drop-down list of "URLs."
Regular Chrome users can already customize site shortcuts themselves, for example by programming them to open search for the Reddit site just by typing "red." Now you can apply group policies to the service to automatically assign the most useful shortcuts to your employees without them having to figure them out themselves.
This feature is rolling out and will work even when users are not in Workspace. For all Chrome users, the browser will start to warn about tabs they may have forgotten, regardless of the device they first opened them on.
IT teams will also benefit from more granular administrative controls, including profile-level security policies and managed navigation designed to separate personal and business data in BYOD environments. On the end-user side, when users log into their business accounts, they'll get a new user interface that gives them more clarity about what data the company can access on their device, and lets them manage their personal bookmarks, extensions and browser data in a separate profile.
