Artificial Intelligence is progressing at a brisk pace and so is its adoption. On one hand, the threat of AI replacing jobs looms large, while on the other hand, it is showcasing numerous ways to amplify human creativity. US-based Runway AI has introduced its latest AI model, the Gen-3 Alpha. The company claims it's "a new frontier for high-fidelity, controllable video generation."
The Gen-3 Alpha is the first in an upcoming series of models to be trained by Runway on a new infrastructure built for large-scale multimodal training. Runway claims the new model offers significant improvements over the Gen-2 in terms of accuracy, consistency and movement. This is a step towards building a universal model of the world – the next big breakthrough in artificial intelligence, as these systems will be able to understand the visual world and its dynamics. Since the launch of the Gen-3 Alpha model, netizens have been sharing their unique creations with the world. These high definition videos show the versatility and reach of the new Runway AI model. Here are some fascinating videos of Gen-3 Alpha.
Create your monster novel
Text-to-video models like Gen-3 Alpha can really enhance your creativity. A user on X (formerly Twitter) named Uncanny Harry AI used the model to create a short video of a fictional monster rising from the River Thames in London. The video shows a "terrible monster" rising from the river that resembles the famous Godzilla, or Seagull. The 11-second clip is cinematic with a grim London scene under a cloudy sky, and the monster slowly rising above the fierce waves.
Time lapse pencil drawing
Another user, Anu Akash, who claims to be ‘exploring AI tools’ in her bio on X, shared a short video generated by Gen-3 Alpha where a pencil drawing of a girl is shown in time-lapse. Akash describes top view time lapse video of hand drawn pencil artwork using prompts. She describes it as bunny girl art from start to finish. The user also acknowledged that the hair was a typo in the prompt that she gave as she intended it to be “rabbit-like ears”. However, she seemed pleased with Gen-3 Alpha’s output. Flower history
Gen-3 Alpha can even realize your craziest dream. Martin Haerlin, another X user, used this model to create visual rotating wood flowers. You can see pink and red petals spread over the city, weapons shoot out flowers of various colors and sizes, warriors' bows turn into sunflowers, daisies float in the air, and soldiers and martial artists manipulate flowers. Haerlin lamented in his post that with Gen-3 Alpha, he feels his storytelling tools have improved and improved by leaps and bounds. Hyperrealistic images
Digital artist and filmmaker Christopher Freients shared a 53-second short film called "This Town Isn't Real." Fryant used the Gen-3 Alpha model with additional mounting and sound design. Fryant said the output is text-to-video only. The footage shows how the camera pans over the night scene and shows people in motion. At first it may look like real footage.
Based on the above creations from various users, it looks like Runway's Gen-3 Alpha is on par with Sora, and even surpasses it in some cases based on the video samples shared by OpenAI. Sola is not available yet. Former Stability AI CEO Emad Mostaque also shared an article comparing Gen-3 Alpha and Sora.
