In May, Microsoft announced that Call of Duty: Back Ops 6, the next installment in Activision's popular first-person shooter series, would be available on Xbox Game Pass at its October launch. But the first Call of Duty game available through the gaming subscription could come much sooner. Parent company Xbox is reportedly planning to release Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on Xbox Game Pass this month.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on Game Pass
A report from Insider Gaming on Monday stated that last year's Modern Warfare 3 is set to release on Xbox Game Pass later this month, but no specific date was given. "Insider Gaming was unable to confirm an exact release date at the time of publishing this article, but multiple sources have suggested it could be released later this month," the report states.
This information was later confirmed by Windows Central, but neither Microsoft nor Activision have yet confirmed plans to add Modern Warfare 3 to Game Pass. There are currently no Call of Duty games on Microsoft's game subscription service. Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer said last year that regulatory hurdles delayed the company's acquisition of Call of Duty, so Call of Duty and other Activision Blizzard games won't be coming to Xbox Game Pass until 2024. Spencer said at the time that Microsoft wouldn't be able to complete the work necessary to add Activision games to its Game Pass catalog until the acquisition was complete.
Black Ops 6 will be released on Game Pass on day one
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be available on Game Pass on October 25th, making it the first game in the hit series to reach Game Pass on day one. Modern Warfare 3 ( review ), released on November 10th of last year, is the latest game in the series, and you can also expect older COD titles to gradually make their way to Game Pass. However, Microsoft did not reveal a specific timeline. Earlier this week, Microsoft increased the price of Xbox Game Pass across all regions and tiers ahead of the launch of Black Ops 6. The company also introduced a new "Standard" tier to the subscription service, which will not offer any new first-party games on the launch day.
