Bluesky keeps growing. The company announced Friday morning that it gained 3 million new users, bringing its total to more than 9 million. In other words, the social platform's user base has grown by about 50% in the past week since a Brazilian court banned X (formerly Twitter). The ban propelled Bluesky to the top of Brazil's free iPhone app rankings, where it now sits second only to rival Meta's Threads app.
In addition to providing its latest user numbers, Bluesky assured new and existing users that video support is "coming soon." The platform began as an effort by Twitter to create an open social protocol, but has since become an independent venture-backed startup and launched fully to the public in February. In an earlier article on growth, Bluezsky stated that 85 % of the new users were Brazilian. With a lot of new users, the accidental problems have become very quick.
