Google Maps will now show the "Gulf of America" instead of the "Gulf of Mexico" for US users on both web and mobile platforms, an update that follows the Trump administration's official name change.
According to Google, it matches the Geographic Names Information System (GNIS), a database of geographic names maintained by the U.S. government. Internationally, Google Maps currently displays "Gulf of Mexico" in brackets alongside "Gulf of America." The version displayed depends on factors such as device location, mobile operating system, SIM card details and network for mobile users, while for desktop users it depends on search parameters or detected locations.
Apple Maps has not yet implemented any changes and continues to redirect "" Bay of America". Other mapping services such as MapQuest have not made any changes. Meanwhile, Waze, which belongs to Google, is Recognizes two names while searching for "Mexican Bay", but "America. No results for "\" are seen.
