Yamaha has introduced a new handheld controller that allows captains to control their boat from anywhere on board. Designed to integrate with Yamaha's HelmMaster EX system, this wireless remote control improves operation and convenience, making boat control more accessible.

Unveiled at the 2025 Miami International Boat Show, the Helmmaster EX Wireless Control resembles a beefed-up Nintendo Wii Nunchuk, though it won't be available to install at dealerships until fall 2025. Pricing hasn't been released yet, but it could cost more than $12,000 to upgrade a single-engine boat with the Helm Master EX system.

Yamaha introduced the Helm Master EX system in 2020 to make multi-engine boats easier to operate. The modular system includes both physical and touchscreen controls and offers optional upgrades like autopilot for route following and a joystick for precision steering and throttle control.

The new wireless remote provides captains with more flexibility, allowing them to operate their boats single-handedly while managing docking lines or fenders. The battery has an estimated run time of eight hours, which can be extended by periodically charging it in the cradle, which can be mounted anywhere on board.

Designed for safety and durability, the remote control is waterproof, floats and has a fall detection system. Connect to eight portable key fobs (two included) to monitor passengers. If someone falls overboard, the system automatically shuts down the boat and idles or shuts down the engine, allowing for a fast response to an emergency.
