Elon Musk said he plans to move X and SpaceX headquarters from California to Texas. "Because this law and many others before it have harmed families and businesses, SpaceX will now move its headquarters from Hawthorne, California to Starbase, Texas," Musk tweeted, referring to California's SAFE Act 》(AB1955. ). California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill Monday banning schools from requiring teachers to disclose changes in students' gender identity without their permission and banning retaliation against teachers who refuse to expel students, the Los Angeles Times reported.
A few minutes later, Musk tweeted that X, currently headquartered in San Francisco, "will be moving to Austin." Last year, a Wall Street Journal report revealed that Musk plans to build his own community outside of Austin called Snailbrook. He also reportedly plans to open a university in Austin.
Musk has moved other companies recently. Musk filed to move SpaceX from Delaware to Texas after a Delaware judge blocked his $55 billion compensation package in January, which shareholders ultimately approved. He also moved Tesla's headquarters to Texas in 2021 after California health officials shut down Tesla's Fremont factory during the Covid-19 pandemic.
