On June 20, OnePlus partnered with Chinese battery manufacturer and technology company Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Ltd. (CATL) to launch a new battery technology called "Glacier Battery". The Chinese smartphone maker announced on Chinese social media platform Weibo that the technology will allow it to increase the battery capacity of its smartphones while reducing their size. According to OnePlus, it has managed to pack a 6,100mAh battery into its upcoming OnePlus Ace 3 Pro smartphone using this newly developed technology.
OnePlus said it developed a "high-capacity bionic silicon-carbon material" that it then used to achieve an energy density of 763 Wh/l for its new smartphone batteries. The company claimed that this is 23.1% higher than the energy density of standard graphite batteries. In addition, the company said that although its capacity is larger, the batteries developed by OnePlus Glacier's battery technology can provide higher charging speed, longer service life and stable voltage. The company says the new 6100mAh Glacier battery has 100 W charging support, only 1 % cost up to 100 %. In addition, after four years of use, the battery will retain more than 80% of its original capacity.
OnePlus introduces new battery technology in the OnePlus Ace 3 Pro smartphone. OnePlus is likely to include Glacier batteries in its future flagship smartphones, including the OnePlus 13 series of smartphones that will be released early next year.
