Samsung is bringing the Live Translate feature to WhatsApp and other third-party apps, it announced at its Galaxy Unpacked event on Wednesday. The feature was first announced in January when Samsung unveiled Galaxy AI, a suite of artificial intelligence (AI) services for its devices. This development confirms earlier leaks from tipsters who claimed that the live translation feature would be working on WhatsApp.
Live translation in third-party apps
Live Translate is a real-time voice translation feature that supports 13 languages at launch. It is currently limited to Samsung-specific apps like Messages and Phone. During a keynote at Galaxy Unpacked on Wednesday, the tech giant confirmed that the feature is expanding and will now support voice calls in select third-party apps. Samsung hasn't revealed which apps will be included, but the list is expected to include VoIP apps like WhatsApp and Telegram. The feature will not only expand the number of apps, but also support additional languages. Samsung says it will support up to 16 languages in July and 20 languages by the end of the year.
Samsung says Live Translate works via on-device processing. This means the data is stored locally on the device, instead of being sent to a cloud server for storage. It claims to translate phone calls, text messages and face-to-face conversations in real-time in the user\'s preferred language. In addition, you can install the language package on the device and install additional language support.
This development is based on the previous Tip Star Ice Universal Slue, suggesting that live translation will soon work. In June, Samsung revealed that other applications would immediately present their functions.
