Microsoft had intended to offer Recall to the general public on June 18, but has announced that it will instead be accessible only via the Windows Insider Programme in the following weeks.

Faced with security scrutiny of its products, Microsoft Corp is halting the broad release of new artificial intelligence features in its Windows software for new PCs and will test them in smaller groups. Undo is a Windows feature launched in May that logs everything people do on their computers. This method is intended to facilitate tasks such as working with e-mail or searching archives. Microsoft plans to make Recall widely available on June 18, but says it will only be available to the Windows Insider program for the next few weeks.

The company said on its website on Thursday: "We are adjusting the release model to enable the recalled model to use the professional knowledge of the Windows Insider community to ensure that the experience meets the high standards of quality and safety." After the recall feedback from our Windows Insider community, we plan to recall all Copilot+ PC (preview)

Safety researchers almost immediately criticized the recall after the introduction, saying that bad actors could access and dig out records of the tool collecting and stored on the user PC. Microsoft reacted by saying Recall would be shipped in the “off” position, meaning PC owners would have to choose to use the feature. Additional security measure would be needed before Recall could be activated, the company said.
