OpenAI is extending ChatGPT's advanced voice mode capabilities to the web, allowing users to converse with AI chatbots directly from their browsers. Kevin Weil, the company's chief product officer, said in announcing the launch of X. The functionality, which makes chatgpt more natural to speak, is deployed to paid Chatgpt customers this week, which means that you must be one more subscriber, business, teams or EDU to access it.

The web launch follows the beginnings of the advanced vocal mode of Openai in the iOS and Android applications of Chatgpt in September. Enhanced voice mode leverages the native audio capabilities of OpenAI GPT-4oto enable natural, real-time communication between users and ChatGPT, allowing the chatbot to understand and respond to non-verbal cues such as speaking rate. Chatbots can also respond with emotions.

To start a voice conversation on the web, you need to select the vocal icon at the bottom right of the ChatgptPrompt window. Next, you'll need to allow your browser to access your computer's microphone. When you start a voice conversation, you'll see a screen with a blue sphere in the middle.

ChatGPT has nine voices to choose from, each with its own tone and character. For example, you can choose "Arbor," which is "easy-going and versatile," or "Ember," which is "confident and optimistic." Weil said OpenAIwill try to roll out the feature to free users in the "coming weeks."
