Meta changes the marking method to edit or change the content of content or change content on Instagram, Facebook and threads. For this type of content, the meta label moves "AI information" to the post menu. Previously, labels were displayed directly below the user's name.
The company said the label will still appear in content it exposes to AI tools. This means that while content that has been changed or edited with AI tools has the label hidden, it will still be highlighted below content that was entirely generated using AI prompts.
For AI-generated content, Meta will "share whether the content is flagged due to industry common signals or due to someone's self-disclosure," the company said. Meta said the changes will be launched next week "better to reflect the AI grade used on its platform".
By making this information brand harder to find, users are likely to mislead the AI editing content, especially with editing tools that are becoming more advanced. Given that AI generation is a relatively new technology, this is not the first time Meta has changed its way to mark such content on the platform. In July, the company changed its AI label from "AI" to "Ai Info". Meta said the changes made the original tag wording unclear enough for users to understand that some tagged images weren't necessarily created by AI, but may have been edited using AI tools.
