Gemini in Gmail can now help you refine your drafts

Google has updated Gmail's Gemini writing tool to allow users to polish drafts of their emails.

Google is updating Gmail's Gemini writing tool to let you polish drafts you've already written. Now, among Gemini's other "Help Me Write" options like "Formalize" and "Elaborate," you can click "Polish" to polish your email, Google said in a blog post. The company also added shortcuts that appear in the body of emails on Android and iOS, making it clearer that it has an AI-powered writing tool.

The tool is available to those who pay for a Google One AI Premium account or Google's Gemini add-on for Workspace. If this is the case for you, when you open a blank draft, you’ll see a “Help me write” shortcut that you can click to have Gemini write a draft of text for you. Once you have 12 or more words in your draft (AI-written or not), you should see a new “Refine my draft” label displayed in gray letters below the words. Swipe your thumb across the text and you can choose to "Sharpen," "Format," "Refine," or "Cut," or ask Gemini to write you an entirely new draft. (If you don't see the "Adjust Draft" shortcut, clicking the pencil icon does the same thing.)
