Users will be able to experience Apple Intelligence for the first time when Apple starts making some features of its artificial intelligence suite available in the iOS 18.1 developer beta released on Monday. Apple Intelligence was unveiled at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June. However, the first developer betas and public betas do not have Apple Intelligence features.
Usage limitations
The release of iOS 18.1 is also limited. Apple mentioned in a press release in June that iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPad and Mac users with the M1 will be able to try a beta version of Apple Intelligence at a later date if the device language is set to US English. But based on users and our own tests, the device region should be set to US. To use Apple Intelligence features after setting your region and language, click Add to waiting list under Settings in the new Apple Intelligence & Siri menu. You will be notified when you are accepted from the waiting list to use the Apple Intelligence feature. Note that it may take some time for the device to download the models associated with the AI pack, so not all features will be available immediately.
Features
In the current release, Apple has enabled a new animation for Siri. Additionally, you can call Siri using text prompts by double-clicking the bottom bar. Additionally, you can use writing tools to proofread or rewrite text in a similar tone. You can also choose to change the tone with “Friendly,” “Professional,” and “Concise” options. Apple also allows you to modify a bunch of text to a list, a summary, a table, or key points. Mail has a snippets feature, and you can also view priority emails at the top of your inbox. You can also view a one-line summary of an email without opening it. You can also use Smart Reply to quickly reply to emails.
The iOS 18.1 update features a focus mode powered by Apple Intelligence called “Reduce Interruptions,” which will use AI to show only important notifications. Apple's Intelligence suite is still missing many features, such as ChatGPT integration and Image Playground. Bloomberg notes that Apple is still debugging many of the new features, so users will have to wait to test them out.
