According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple plans to launch a new model, the iPhone 17 Air, as part of its next major iPhone upgrade. The addition of "Air" branding is consistent with Apple's use of the name for its lighter and thinner MacBook Air and iPad Air models, providing a more attractive alternative to existing Plus or mini iPhones.
The iPhone 17 Air is expected to debut with the thinner Apple speed, which is two millimeters thinner than the current iPhone size. According to reports, it is also characterized by Apple's first internal modem, which will make its first debut in the new iPhone SE, released in the spring of 2025. The launch of the modem marks a major step for Apple to reduce its reliance on third-party suppliers such as Qualcomm.
This thinner design could also indicate that Apple is moving towards its long-rumored foldable iPhone and iPad, which are speculated to be available in 2026 or later. In addition to the iPhone 17 Air Gurman in 2025, other upcoming Apple products, including Smart Home Hubs, also outline. However, the company's recent plan does not seem to exist in the new Vision Pro Hybrid headset version.
