Apple Fitness Plus is getting a fresh redesign within the Strava app, thanks to a new collaboration between the two companies. The partnership aims to enhance how Fitness Plus integrates with Strava’s fitness community, offering features like richer workout summaries, appearances by Strava athletes in Fitness Plus sessions, and a complimentary three-month trial for Strava subscribers.
Starting today, users will notice improvements such as thumbnails for Fitness Plus workouts, along with details such as episode numbers, trainers, music genres, metrics, and achievements. While primarily a design update, these updates bring Fitness Plus closer together with other Strava integrations, such as those with Peloton and Ladder. In the past, Apple Watch users were able to import exercises in Strava, but integration was essential. It provides limited information, only the type of activity, the burning calorie content and the basic data of the heart rate without a class or teacher.
This update closes that gap and provides a more detailed and complete experience. For example, you can now easily identify a specific Fitness Plus yoga session, right down to the trainer and playlist. The partnership between Fitness Plus and Strava is a two-way integration. In addition to the updated workout summaries, new and existing Strava subscribers in the US, UK, Canada and Australia can access a free three-month trial of Fitness Plus, even without owning an Apple Watch. However, an iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV is still required to use the service.
Adding to the excitement, Strava athletes will feature as guest trainers in Fitness Plus workouts for the first time. Upcoming sessions include a strength session with runner Hellah Sidibe on January 13 and a treadmill session with Kayla Jeter. This marks a new approach for Apple Fitness Plus, which has traditionally only offered free trials with the purchase of Apple hardware and exclusively sought out guest hosts from its own shows.
