Nokia has achieved the first surrounding sound phone, enabling real-time, immersive audio and video calls .

While these small pocket computers have jumps from mobile devices to an indispensable digital knot, smartphone communication will be a troubles of low sound prices. This is a bold requirement, but Nokia believes it has succeeded in reaching the first surrounding sound and sound phone, "supported by the new decoder. The demonstration marks an industry first as Nokia enables real-time, immersive audio and video calls between

Nokia President and CEO Pek Lundmark and Finland's Ambassador for Digitization and New Technologies Stefan Lindström over a commercial 5G network in Finland. This is due to the Immersive Speech and Audio Services (IVAS) codec technology, a newly developed technology that will be part of the advanced 5G standard. Unlike today's monophonic smartphone voice call experience, the IVAS codec provides real-time surround sound, adding a unique acoustic dimension. During the call, Lundmark demonstrated these unique surround audio capabilities to Lindström, calling from Nokia's campus in Espoo.

Lindström said the immediate, immersive voice and audio experience provided by IVAS significantly improves the quality and richness of calls. The simple provision of 3D sound creates a more realistic experience and interaction, providing many benefits for personal and professional communication. It is expected that with the further development of immersive communication technology, the interaction between XR and the virtual universe will also rise to a new level.

Describing the demonstration as a glimpse into the future of voice calls, Lundmark said: "This revolutionary audio technology will bring you inside the caller, creating space and a vastly improved listening experience for voice and video calls, creating a new world for business and industrial applications with significant benefits.

Real-time surround audio on a smartphone, tablet or PC brings people one step closer as the IVAS code supports it across all devices using the power of the web. It's the biggest breakthrough in real-time voice calling experience, replacing monophonic phone audio on current smartphones and PCs.

Nokia has made significant technical contributions to the development of the 3GPP IVAS codec standard and played a leading role in its standardization, working to create a core set of smartphone format components. For space communication to become a reality for everyone, this innovation needs to become part of a global standard that allows carriers, chipset makers and handset manufacturers to work together.

Although IVA is not yet available on mobile networks, Nokia has completed the industry's first real -time call to a commercial 5G network using its patented surrounding voice technology based on the company's commercial 5G core. Here's the good news: most smartphones available today already have at least two microphones, the minimum needed for IVA compatibility.

However, 5G's advanced standards for today's 5G mobile phone technology will not be fully implemented for many years and the mobile network has not used Iva codecs. Regardless of how Nokia imagined, this first "surrounding" phone should pave the way to the license agreement to improve the quality of voting calls and prepare for the "improved expansion reality and Yuanyuan application". Nokia and its 3GPP partners jointly developed the new IVAS codec, clearly seeing its potential not only in smartphones and audio calls, but also in various multimedia applications.
