According to researchers, this is considered the biggest password data breach ever. "Essentially, the RockYou2024 leak is a collection of real passwords used by individuals around the world. Cybernews researchers note that the leak of many passwords by threat actors greatly increases the risk of credential attacks. "Threat actors could use RockYou2024's password harvesting to carry out brute force attacks and gain unauthorized access to various online accounts used by individuals using passwords on their profiles," they added.
According to the researchers, the passwords were leaked using old and new data leaks. "Furthermore, RockYou2024 combined with hacker forums and other leaked databases on the market (such as databases containing users' email addresses and other credentials) can lead to various data breaches, financial fraud and identity theft," the team said. This is not the first time that Rockyou2024 has leaked passwords. Before that, hackers leaked about 8.4 billion text passwords, the report added.
