Windows laptops are undergoing a bit of a change with the recent introduction of Microsoft's Copilot+ PCs, although that designation currently only applies to systems powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Elite and X Plus chips. But now, with a helping hand from AMD, HP's OmniBook Ultra 14 packs even more AI performance into a thin and light chassis. Powered by AMD's Ryzen AI 300 chip, the OmniBook UItra 14 is said to offer up to 55 TOPS of AI performance, up from the 45 TOPS you get from the Hexagon NPU in the Snapdragon X Elite and X Plus. HP says this will support a range of new features, including faster AI image generation and improved camera effects in video calls.

Meanwhile, for non-machine learning tasks, the OmniBook Ultra also has an integrated Radeon 980 GPU.But perhaps more importantly, AMD's Ryzen AI 300 silicon is based on an x86 architecture, so you won't run into the application compatibility issues that you'll encounter with existing Copilot+-based PCs on Arm.This means you'll be able to play games like Fortnite and League of Legends, whose anti-cheat systems haven't yet been updated to work with Qualcomm's Snapdragon X chips. HP has also created its own AI companion app to expand the OmniBook UItra's AI capabilities, which includes the company's Wolf Security system, an improved version of its Smart Sense performance optimization tool, support for Windows Studio Effects and Poly Camera Pro, and more. Notably, HP says the laptop will also be available with a free update that unlocks Windows 11's current AI features, such as Image Creator and real-time transcription, making the OmniBook Ultra 14 an official Copilot+ PC. However, there is no official release schedule for this patch.

As for the rest of the system, keen observers may already have noticed that the OmniBook Ultra has a very familiar looking design. It's certainly not like HP's Qualcomm-powered OmniBook for Ultra, which explains the laptop's distinctive chamfered corners. Ultra Omnibook has two Thunderbolt 4 -port (the first HP laptop with AMD), type A USB slit and 3.5 mm audio socket. Omnibook X and Ultra Munibook have a 14 -inch system, but the latter has a 68 WH battery (for 59 WH in the case of omnibook X), weighs 3.5 pounds, and converts to a 0.65 -inch device larger. To 2.98 pounds and 0.57 inches for (compared (compared)). Unfortunately, at this point, it remains to be seen whether AMD's new AI-focused chip can deliver the same level of durability found in current Copilot+ PCs, although HP claims 13 hours of battery life in the Mobile and until 9 p.m. hours of continuous video playback.

The HP Omnibook Ultra is expected to go on sale sometime in August, starting at $1,450.
