Smartphone cameras are growing better and larger, so Samsung is offering a choice of sensors that they may use to improve their performance even more.

Samsung on Thursday unveiled a new 200MP telephoto image sensor for smartphones with improved light absorption capabilities.

The Isocell HP9 contains 200 million 0.56 micron pixels in a 1/1.4-inch optical format. Samsung says it used a new material to create highly refractive microlenses in the sensor, improving its light-gathering capabilities by precisely directing more light to the corresponding RGB color filters. The company says the sensor follows a trend in high-end smartphones whose main cameras use a larger wide-angle optical format, meaning they have room for larger telephoto sensors. The South Korean tech giant says it has a 12% improvement in light sensitivity and 10% improvement in autofocus performance compared to its predecessor.

The sensor performs well in low-light conditions thanks to the company's technology of grouping 16 pixels into 12MP. Samsung said the 2.24-micron sensor can better absorb light, allowing for clearer portrait shots and "dramatic" defocused bokeh effects.

The company added that the sensor also offers 12x optical zoom when its 4x sensor zoom module is paired with a 3x telephoto zoom module. At the same time, Samsung also launched two new 50MP image sensors – Isocell GNJ and Isocell JN5.

According to the company, the Isocell GNJ is a dual-pixel sensor with 50 million 1-micron pixels in a 1/1.57-inch optical format. This is called a double pixel because each pixel has a place for two photoelectric diodes that are faster and more accurate. It also uses Samsung's new microls to better absorb light. Pixels are also better isolated from each other to minimize crosstalk, allowing for more accurate image capture.

The Isocell JN5 has 50 million, 0.64-micrometer-sized pixels in a 1/2.76-inch optical format, Samsung said. The sensor features dual vertical transfer gate technology that increases charge transfer into pixels for reduced noise and clearer low-light images. It has the mandatory phase detection technology and improved high dynamic range. It is a comprehensive sensor that can be used for the main camera and sub -camera, width, with ultra -alerted angle and remote camera.
