Motorola's parent company Lenovo today hosted a major event in China, where it introduced the new RAZR 50 folding series alongside many other technologies. This year, RAZR consists of two phones - flagship razr 50 ultra with its 4 "cover screen and Snapdragon 8S GEN 3 chips, as well as affordable but still quite capable RAZR 50 with size 7300x.
Motorola Razr 50 Ultra
The main features of the Ultra are a larger screen and thinner bezels than last year's Razr 40 Ultra. This is the largest such display we've seen on a foldable device to date, and it's a pOLED with 1080p resolution, 100% DCI-P3 color gamut, and HDR10+ support. It even supports variable refresh rates from 1 to 165 Hz.
The large cover display offers many features we've already seen on other Razrs — watch videos, get navigation information, see yourself when you take a selfie. The folding panel inside is the famous 6.9-inch FHD+ pOLED with a better color gamut of 120% DCI-P3. nits There's a selfie camera behind the cutout and a 32MP sensor and f/2.4 lens on the front.
Speaking of cameras, one big improvement Motorola has made is in the dual-camera department - the whole setup has changed, and there's now a 50MP f/1.7 primary shooter and a 50MP f/2.0 telephoto with 2x optical zoom camera. Speakers on stage detailed the Razr 50 Ultra's AI capabilities, just as other companies have done this year. The battery is 4,000 mAh and brings 45W fast charging, as well as 15W wireless charging – both of which are upgrades from last year. The phone runs Android 14 with Moto MyUX. The device is IPX8 water resistant, a first for a Razr, although the fine print limits submersion to 10 seconds at 1.5m. The Razr 50 Ultra is already available in China in three Pantone options: Dill, Navy Blazer and Peach Fuzz.

The regular Razr 50 also comes with a large 3.6-inch pOLED screen as opposed to the small 1.5-inch rectangular screen of the Razr 40. Maximum brightness. This model also inherits its high-end sibling's 6000 series aluminum frame, 32 MP selfie camera and 50 MP main camera with OIS. Unfortunately, the second camera on the back is a 13MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle lens with a 120-degree field of view — the same camera in last year's Razr 40
The new chip Dimensity 7300X was launched last month as a dedicated platform for dual-screen foldable devices, and as everyone expected, the Razr 50 was the first to use it. It is equipped with 4x2.5 GHz Cortex-A78 and 4x2.0 GHz Cortex-A55 CPU and Mali-G615 GPU with internal HyperEngine for powerful graphics and smooth gaming, according to Mediatek. The battery here is 4200mAh with 30W wired charging and 15W wireless charging. The Razr 50 also comes with Android 14 and Motorola's user interface.
The Razr 50 is available in three Pantone colors – Steel Velvet, Pumice and Arabesque – and all three feature vegan leather panels. The 8/256GB is priced at CNY 3,699 ($510/€475) and the 12/512GB version is priced at CNY 3,999 ($550/€515). Like its Ultra sibling, the phone is already on sale in China. There's no word on a global launch, but Motorola's social channels around the world are teasing the release of these models today, so hopefully we'll hear more soon.
