Monday is here, and with it comes the latest Rewind weekly column, where our team of audio and home theater experts look back at the hottest hi-fi and AV stories of the past seven days. This is a particularly busy time for What Hi-Fi? The tower, our team held a special Family Film Week event, and a big message broke out of Cambridge and surveillance sounds.
Last week we started looking at Cambridge Audio Melomania P100. This is the first set of wireless headphones from the British Hi-Fi brand. They are direct competitors of the ruling Sony WH-1000XM5, and the latter sits on our best Wireless Headset-buying guide. While we haven't had a proper chance to review the P100 yet, our staff writers heard them speak at launch, and they left us with a positive initial impression. If they can deliver on the audio front and reach the 60 hours of listening time that Cambridge quoted when we put them through a proper test, the P100 could be one of the surprise products of 2024. Last week, our reviewers gave their final verdict on the Monitor Audio Studio 89.
Introduced as a modernized version of the company's original 1989 Studio 15 speakers, the stand mounts have a very striking look. Fortunately, when we tested their groove in a dedicated listening room, they also delivered the goods sonically. When properly matched, the speakers delivered flawless, powerful sound and near-pristine presentation, regardless of the type of music being played.
