Spotify appears to be testing emergency alerts, but it's still in its early stages.
The music streamer is testing the new feature in Sweden, where it's based, and the app's code references it. A spokesperson for Spotify confirmed to Techcrunch that testing is ongoing, but currently only applies to Sweden.
"At Spotify, we regularly conduct extensive testing in an effort to improve our user experience," the company said. "Some of these tests ultimately pave the way for our broader user experience, while most serve only as important learning opportunities."
To be clear, this doesn't necessarily mean Swedish users will be getting emergency pop-ups from Spotify anytime soon. The company is apparently working on the feature code, but internal testing may be as far as it goes. Mashable has contacted to clarify Spotify.
While emergency alarms may sound different from Spotify conventional products, it is not the biggest leap. Other technical giants (such as Google and Apple) have different security features, and Facebook has many years of security test features.
