A new feature Instagram announced today will let users add songs to their profiles - just like Myspace did in the early 2000s. According to the screenshot shared by Instagram, music added to a user's profile will appear in the bio area. The song is displayed on the profile until the user deletes or replaces it. But unlike Myspace, songs don't play automatically people who see a profile with a song can play and pause the track. Users can add songs by going to the Edit Profile page, where they can search and select tracks from Instagram's library of approved music, which can also be used in content such as wheels or inserts.
From there, users will be able to select a 30-second portion of the song to add. Instagram is launching the feature in collaboration with pop star Sabrina Carpenter, whose earworm hit 'Espresso' has been inescapable this summer. Starting today, Carpenter's official Instagram profile will include a teaser of the previously unheard song "Taste" ahead of her album release on Friday. Instagram said the feature of personal data music is the only way to listen to songs before complete release.
Instagram also adds some hidden features around the upcoming album Short N'sweet. Using certain keywords such as "Sabrina" or Coffee Cup Emoji will turn temporary notes messages light blue, and there is a carpentry-marked chat theme with lipstick kisses.
